3/23/20: Under the new "stay at home" orders by the Governor of the State of Ohio, we want to remind you that Community One Credit Union is an ESSENTIAL BUSINESS and OPEN to serve you through our drive through lanes and convenience services. Effective at 5pm today, 3/23/20, in order to comply with the CDC’s recommendations for social distancing, we will be closing our lobbies (drive through lanes will remain open and fully functioning). Our lobbies WILL BE AVAILABLE for loan services by appointment only. Please call us at 330-305-3050 option 1 to schedule appointments. We will re-open our lobbies as soon as it is deemed safe to do so.

We are taking these extraordinary measures because the health and wellbeing of our members, our employees, and their families are our number one concern. While we continue to do business as usual in these unusual times, we apologize for possible longer wait times and appreciate your patience as we are working with limited staff.

As we continue to follow the recommendations of the CDC and State of Ohio, we want to assure you that Community One Credit Union will remain open, fully functioning and here to serve ALL of your financial needs.

During this evolving situation, our main priority is the health and safety of our team and our members. In order to adhere to the social distancing guidelines that have been set forth, we want you to know that all of your transactions in our lobbies are conducted through a glass partition. Beginning today, we will also service all of our loan requests from the lobby as well. We will be happy to assist you with your loan request via telephone, and in many cases, we will be able to close your loan through E-Sign so you never need to leave your home. When E-Sign is not an option, we will take your application by phone and close your loan in the lobby of either office.

We appreciate your patience and understanding in these unprecedented times. The steps we are taking are to ensure everyone’s health and well-being.

The Ohio Credit Union Foundation is offering Ohio undergraduate credit union members the opportunity to apply for one of three video-based scholarships by creating an interactive 1 to 2½-minute video answering the following scholarship question:

“Imagine you are now running your credit union, and you need to promote the benefits of membership. Create a 60-second to 2.5-minute commercial to entice community members to join your credit union.”

Video entries can be edgy, funny, bold, simple, serious – or anything in between. Entries will be judged on the accuracy of information presented, effectiveness in addressing the scholarship question, and originality.


Applicants must be a member of an Ohio-based credit union who is in good standing and currently attends or has been accepted to attend an accredited college or university, in pursuit of an undergraduate degree, may apply. Proof of acceptance/enrollment will need to be submitted upon request.

Community One Credit Union President/CEO Announces Retirement

Evelyn L. Canterbury is retiring from Community One Credit Union, Inc. concluding a 43 year career serving the credit union, effective March 31, 2018. Canterbury will retain the position of President through September 1, 2018. Canterbury is a native of Stark County and a graduate of Malone University.

Evelyn Canterbury began as a teller at the credit union in 1975, when it was known as Canton Telephone Employees Credit Union, eventually becoming President/CEO in 1982. Under Canterbury’s leadership, Community One Credit Union has grown in assets from 7 million to 83 million and increased in employee size from 3 to 27.

“It’s been a privilege to serve our members and the Stark County community for 43 years. I am honored to have worked with a forward-thinking and supportive Board of Directors and outstanding management team and staff. As I move on to the next chapter of my life, it’s a comfort knowing that the torch is being passed on to Paula Heitger, who I know will continue to build on the credit union’s growth, safety, and soundness well into the future,” stated Canterbury.

Community One’s Board of Directors has named Paula A. Heitger as its new CEO. Heitger will take over these duties on April 1, 2018. Heitger is a 23 year employee of the Credit Union and has served as Marketing Manager, Operations Manager, and most recently as Chief Financial Officer. Heitger holds a bachelor’s degree in accounting and financial management. Chairman of the Board, Alan Oyster, stated that the Credit Union is very grateful in the leadership and dedication that Evelyn has provided to its members. The Board is excited that Paula has accepted the opportunity to lead the Credit Union forward.
